DIY Play Kitchen

Since I am an awesome Auntie (pronounced ONtie not Anty) to my two nieces I decided for Christmas to make them a play kitchen (in addition to numerous store bought presents) to keep at Momo and Papa's house (my parents.) I saw on Pinterest that people were converting old dressers, entertainment centers, desks, etc into kitchens for their kids using just paint and creativity. Of course, I was inspired to create one for the nieces. I ended up buying an old desk at a thrift store for $30 and the kitchen was created from there. I got a lot of the accessories from thrift stores and dollar stores. Here are some pictures I took of it in the process of being built.

Here is the finished project.

For a back splash I used scrapbook paper. My burners are the tops of Christmas candy tins. The sink is just a regular old stainless steel bowl. The faucet I found at Big Lots for cheap. The microwave buttons is part of an old time clock an IT guy at work donated to my cause. There are push lights above the sink and the stove. I think it turned out pretty good. And most importantly the girls loved it and they "cook" all the time.

*I must give a shout out to my lovely father, aka Papa to my nieces, for helping me with this. He did some of the painting while I was at work and was the one who used the big tools like the circular saw for cutting out the hole for the sink. I really appreciate him doing this and so do my fingers since they are all still attached to my hands.
